Gaza Scorecard

Who won, who lost in the Gaza confrontation? Well, there actually is quite a scorecard and our John Wohlstetter, blogging regularly at Letter from the Capital, has supplied it.

On balance, the Egypt-brokered truce is likely just a "time out", and the Gaza fireworks were just a costly trial run for the fight coming. To me the most fascinating reality is that anti-missile defense has been validated as never before. The Gulf War twenty years ago and the seemingly successful (but actually unsuccessful) defense of Israel with Patriot missiles was like an early experiment. Saddam's blunderbuss Scud missiles weren't going to do much damage, anyhow--at least on purpose.

The same is true of the Iranian rockets that Hamas used. But the Iranians will learn from this experiment, just as the Israelis will.
