William Donahue of the Catholic League brings to our attention a news story out of Jerusalem, where former New York Mayor Ed Koch deplores the biased reporting on the Vatican's handling of the sexual abuse cases. Koch is lucid and direct.
Among other things, he deplores the idea that "Jews" are behind the bias. Actually, that rumor is a new one in this context. The nasty attacks also don't come from conservative Protestants.
No, the shrillest voices being raised are those of the professional atheists and left wing politicos, the folks who, in the name of "science" and "progress" want to strangle opposing opinions. So, for example, we have the likes of Richard Dawkins and Chris Hitchens calling for the "arrest" of Pope Benedict XVI when he visits England in a few months.
Donahue also points out today that liberals in the legislature in Connecticut just defeated a proposal to tighten scrutiny of public schools and other public institutions to prevent sex abuse of minors.
It is very telling.
